How do I become licensed as a boiler engineer in Minnesota?

You must pass a written exam for a boiler engineer license.

To take the exam, submit an affidavit of operating experience.

You can apply online to be approved to take the exam. The exam fee is $50.

  • When you are approved to take the exam you will receive instructions about how to schedule your exam.

  • Boiler exams are administered at all DLI exam locations, though only on specifically scheduled days.

  • The time limit for all boiler exams is 2.5 hours.

  • If you cannot appear for a scheduled exam, you can reschedule one time without having to reapply and pay a second exam fee.

  • View more information about exams.

Boiler licenses expire every two years at the end of the month in which the license was originally issued.
