How to become a building official, building official limited and accessibility specialist
Municipal building official certification

Submit the Municipal Building Official and Accessibility Specialist Certification Examination Application and required $50 fee. Applications can be mailed or uploaded online. Directions are included on the application.

A minimum of 100 qualifying points is required for your application to be approved.

Education, certifications, experience and employment information must be provided for points claimed. Supporting documentation such as college transcripts, ICC certifications and employment verification letters are necessary to verify points.

Once approved, you'll receive an email with instructions to schedule a certification exam.
Building official, limited certification

If you have taken this course previously, or hold a Building Inspection Technology Certificate, you may waive enrollment in the course.

After attending the entire course, or waiving enrollment, you'll receive an email with instructions to schedule a certification exam.
