We review several kinds of construction-related projects. They include:

Building plan review
Staff examine construction and supporting documents documents for buildings paid for by the state or a state agency, public school district buildings and buildings that are licensed by other state agencies such as health care facilities or correctional facilities to ensure they meet the requirements of the State Building Code.

Plumbing plan review
Staff review plans for plumbing projects to ensure they comply with the Minnesota Plumbing Code. The requirements apply to plans for new construction and modifications to existing plumbing systems.

A plumbing plan review is required for all facilities that serve the public or that serve a considerable number of people. Items reviewed include all interior plumbing, building sewer and water service lines within the property boundary and storm-water drainage systems. Plans must be designed and signed by either a Minnesota-licensed professional engineer or  a licensed master plumber.

For cities with a population of fewer than 5,000 people, a licensed restricted master plumber may also design and sign the plans.

Manufactured structures plan review
We regulate manufactured housing and prefabricated buildings in Minnesota. We also review plans and specifications of prefabricated buildings for compliance with the State Building Code covering building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and energy. We maintain installation seal requirements for installers of manufactured homes and periodically inspect manufacturers of housing and prefabricated buildings for compliance with applicable, approved, quality-control procedures and the State Building Code.
