Location, time, format

The Health Care Seminars are virtual and free. A link to attend virtually via Microsoft Teams will be posted with the information for each date below.

The Health Care Seminars are set up for interaction with the audience, leading to better understanding of the topic and more practical learning, and providing a safe environment for participants to ask questions and get real safety and health solutions. This learning opportunity is designed to bring together a diverse group of beyond-safety professionals – including administrators, nursing staff members and support services staff members – to foster collaboration and shared learning. The goal is to create a space where ideas are exchanged, challenges are explored and support to advance workplace safety and health is shared across all facets of health care delivery.

2026 seminar dates

Jan. 28, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Minnesota OSHA's ergonomics statute, Minnesota Statutes 182.677

This free, online seminar was the first in a new series of Health Care Seminars from Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA) Compliance. This webinar focused on MNOSHA's ergonomics statute, Minnesota Statutes 182.677, which became effective Jan. 1, 2024.

This webinar detailed what the law requires and who is covered. The emphasis was on the employer's development of an ergonomics program, annual evaluations, employee training, employee involvement through a safety committee, referencing the ergonomics program in the A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction (AWAIR) program and identifying potential ergonomic risk through reporting of early signs and symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders. Employers must also maintain specific records, as detailed in the statute.

Compliance resources were be provided to attendees. MNOSHA Compliance also provided an update about inspections.

April 29, noon to 1:30 p.m. – Requirements for committees in health care

Safety and health committee requirements in health care vary by standard. Multiple standards require safety and health committees and/or committee involvement in this environment. During this free seminar you will hear from Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA) Compliance about which standards require safety and health committees and the responsibilities of each committee. You will also hear from one of Minnesota's health care systems, with multiple hospitals, about how it navigates these requirements.
