Urban League Twin Cities, recipient of a Labor Education Advancement Program (LEAP) grant, funds a program to introduce more people to registered apprenticeship opportunities. Colicia Barnes, one of the participants in the organization’s program, started as a carpentry apprentice and progressed her training and was hired in a superintendent role at Shaw Lundquist Associates, Inc.

Barnes continued her education and completed a project management program at Dunwoody College of Technology and is nearing completion of her apprenticeship. She hopes to one day own her own construction company and continue to provide for her family.
