Associated Builders and Contractors of Minnesota and North Dakota
Overview
Applications for apprenticeship programs are accepted on a rolling basis through participating employers. Applicants join the apprenticeship program after they are hired by a participating employer.
The list of signatory contractors can be found at MNABC’s apprentice resource web page. ABC has employer partners in North Dakota, and some listed contractors may be located outside of Minnesota.
The length of the application process will vary by employer. There are no application fees or aptitude tests required to join the program.

Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest
Location
3205 Country DR #150, Little Canada, MN 55117
Overview
Finishing Trades Institute of the Upper Midwest (FTIUM) takes applications year-round, and contractors will hire year-round, as labor demands permit. Classes are offered by semester and semesters often typically begin in August and January.
Entry process:
Explore trades and opportunities via FTIUM's website and fill out a contact form. Once the contact form is submitted, applicants will receive an email with a link to sign up for an open house. Interested applicants will then seek work with a signatory contractor. Upon employment, applicants will then join the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). The final step is applying directly to the Finishing Trades Institute apprenticeship program.
FTIUM has a four-page application with no associated fee. The IUPAT application is two pages long and there is an additional one-time, $190 fee.
