This APEX grant funding for career exploration training is to provide programs that introduce youth to career opportunities with registered apprenticeship programs.

What are career exploration programs?

Career exploration programs are structured programs that help people learn about various occupations and how those occupations fit with individual career preferences, skills, interests and values.

Minimum requirements

Applicants must meet the minimum requirements in order to be considered for this grant opportunity. Applicants must:

  • Be a non-profit, community-based organization: an association, school or a registered apprenticeship program.

  • Collaborate with an active apprenticeship program registered by DLI in a programmatically integrated manner.

  • Provide a hands-on component related to the industry being explored.

  • Serve youth participants ages 16 to 24.

Funding availability

  • Total available funds allocated for this round of programs: $100,000.

  • Each applicant may apply for up to $20,000.

  • Funds may be awarded to eight to 10 organizations.

Timeline

  • Oct. 31, 2018:  Request for proposal posted on the Department of Labor and Industry website     

  • Nov. 21, 2018:  Applications due no later than 4:30 p.m.     

  • Nov. 26-30, 2018:  Applications reviewed    

  • Dec. 4, 2018:  Selected grantees announced; grant agreement negotiations begin

  • Jan. 1, 2019:  Work plans approved and grant begins
