The Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) promulgated a new permanent partial disability (PPD) rating schedule in 1993, effective for injuries on or after July 1 of that year. The department devised the new schedule following a statutory provision that total PPD benefits should be "approximately equal" to those under the old schedule. This report analyzes the effects of the new rating schedule on the number of PPD claims and on total PPD benefit payments. The data is from the DLI claims database.
