Research and Statistics -- Comparing work comp claims and OSHA Data Initiative cases

Minnesota OSHA (MNOSHA) compliance inspections depend on the information collected through the OSHA Data Initiative (ODI) to identify establishments for compliance inspections. ODI is a federal OSHA program to collect OSHA log summaries from employers in specified industries. MNOSHA supplements its ODI information with an employer list produced from the state's workers' compensation indemnity claims database.

This report, published in September 2005, compares the data from these two sources to clarify whether it makes sense to continue using both sources and to see if anything can be learned to improve MNOSHA targeting strategies.
