Minnesota's 2016 Construction Industry Conference

Following the successful, inaugural Construction Industry Conference (CIC) in 2014, registration is open for the 2016 Minnesota Construction Industry Conference. The conference is Feb. 18, 2016, at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center.

This one-day conference at the Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center will provide educational and networking opportunities about highway and heavy, commercial building, residential construction and state contracts and procurement, plus informative general sessions for the entire construction industry. The event will also provide updates about current regulations and an opportunity for feedback from the industry about building a better Minnesota. Continuing education units are available for select workshops


register nowThe cost to attend is only $89 and includes all workshops and general sessions, optional 1-on-1 with the State Sessions, continuing education credits for select workshops, breakfast and lunch. Free parking is available at the venue.

General sessions

  • State of the Industry: Construction by the Numbers
    An overview of current economic trends for the Minnesota Construction Industry. Presented by Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben, DEED.

  • Perspectives from Inside the Construction Industry
    This panel includes a cross-section of contractors and industry representatives from around the state. Panelists will tackle topics about economic stability and sustainability, workforce recruitment and retention plus the challenges and opportunities of working with state and local governments. Moderated by Commissioner Ken Peterson, DLI.

  • Ask the Commissioners Panel
    This panel of state commissioners will answer questions submitted by attendees. Panelists include Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben, Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED); Commissioner Kevin Lindsey, Department of Human Rights (MDHR); Commissioner Matt Massman, Department of Administration (ADMIN); Commissioner Ken Peterson, Department of Labor and Industry (DLI); Commissioner Charlie Zelle, Department of Transportation (MnDOT). Moderated by Dave Semerad, AGC.

Workshop topics



Continuing education

Continuing education units for licensees are available for workshops in the Residential Construction series (a total of four credits are available). Additionally, one continuing education unit is available for the workshop Q&A: Minnesota Commercial Construction Building Codes in the Commercial Construction series.

1-on-1 with the state sessions

Subject matter experts will be available by appointment throughout the conference for one-on-one sessions about topics including contracting, prevailing wage, apprenticeship, workers' compensation, safety and more. Attendees have the option of scheduling a one-on-one session by visiting the registration desk during the conference.
