Are hardwired smoke detectors required in existing areas where no work is performed when a building permit is required on the interior of the building?


No. Battery-operated detectors are required. Where work framing is exposed or finishes are removed hardwire smoke detectors are required.


No. Where framing is not exposed or finishes are not removed battery operated detectors are allowed to be used
