Question: |
Should accessible rooms in occupancies specified in MSBC 1340.1103 Subpart 5 (hotel, motel and similar occupancies), be designed to meet general CABO/ANSI technical standards or the design requirements for accessible dwelling units. |
Answer: |
Accessible rooms required in MSBC 1340.1103 Subpart 5 must meet the same design standards as other public and common use areas as described in the general CABO/ANSI technical standards. |
Committee comments: |
The technical design standards for accessible dwelling units of CABO/ANSI section 4.33 are intended for those occupancies specified in MSBC 1340.1103 Subpart 4 only. These occupancies are permanent housing type dwelling units intended for extended residency and are not subject to routine turnover by the general public as are hotel/motel guest rooms or other types of transient housing. Because the type of occupancies specified in MSBC 1340.1103 Subpart 5 are intended for short, temporary stays, they must be designed to meet the general design standards of CABO/ANSI.
