This chapter of the State Building Code is an optional set of requirements that require the installation of an automatic fire sprinkler system in most nonresidential buildings, both existing and new. Sprinklers are also required in some multi family and single family attached housing.
The provisions are more restrictive than the state's adopted model code, the 2006 International Building Code, and are only applicable in those jurisdictions that have adopted them into law and have notified the Department of Labor and Industry accordingly. If the municipality adopts them, the sprinkler system requirements of this chapter become part of the State Building Code and are applicable throughout the municipality. This chapter, if adopted, must be adopted without amendment.
