Plumbing exams

Examinations for licensure are conducted twice a year (March and September). Applications for the March exam will be accepted after Jan. 1, but in no case later than Feb. 15. Applications for the September exam will be accepted after July 1, but in no case later than Aug. 15.

Exam applications
Examinations for licensure are conducted twice a year (March and September). Applications for the March exam will be accepted after Jan. 1, but in no case later than Feb. 15. Applications for the September exam will be accepted after July 1, but in no case later than Aug. 15. Notifications will be sent one to two weeks after the deadlines.

Important information related to filling in each license exam application is provided on the application form. Do not submit the application unless you have all the information that is required. If the agency does not receive all the required information by the due date, your application for exams will be denied.

Examination day requirements and limitations:

• The exam notification
• A Minnesota driver's license or state-issued identification card with photo
• DO NOT BRING pencils, ruler and calculator (DLI will provide)
• DO NOT BRING plumbing code book (DLI will provide appropriate code book excerpts for open book portion of exams)
• BANNED FROM THE TESTING AREA: cell phones, personal code books and exam prep materials
• Applicants should arrive at the examination site by 7:45 a.m.
• Applicants must bring exam notification letter
• Applicants must show a driver's license or state-issued identification card with photo
• Examinations are allotted five-and-a-half (5 1/2) hours to complete.
• Food and drink are permitted during the examination
• Once the testing starts, attendees may not leave the testing area until the exam is turned in.
