What are the fastening requirements for vinyl siding?

Answer:

Section 1404.2 specifies nails that have a minimum of 3/8" head diameter and 0.120" shank diameter.  The nails shall be corrosion resistant.

Comments:

Section 1404.2 also specifies that vinyl siding be installed in accordance with the approved manufacturers' instructions.  The Vinyl Siding Institute permits the use of corrosion resistant staples, but they must still be installed per the approved manufacturers' installation instructions.
