Question:  

When does MSBC 1305.0904 subp. 1 exempt an E-1 school occupancy from the requirement for a sprinkler system?  

Answer:

When E-1 occupancies or mixed occupancy buildings containing E-1 occupancies do not exceed 20,000 square feet, or are otherwise separated into areas not exceeding 20,000 square feet by area separation walls or occupancy separations of not less than a two hour fire-resistive rating.
