| Question: | Where required, do TDD devices need to be permanently affixed to the
public telephone? |
| Answer: | Yes. The intent of this section is that the phones be readily
available and convenient to the user. |
| Division comments: | There may be circumstances when consideration could be given to the
use of a portable device in accordance with CABO/ANSI A117.1-1992
section 4.29.9.2 and UBC section 104.2.8. If portable devices are used,
care should be taken to assure that the TDD is available at a convenient
location in relation to the public phone. Signage should be provided at
the public telephone indicating the location of the portable TDD. The
TDD must be available any time the public phone is available.
