This chapter of the state building code adopts a national standard for the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus, and equipment for electric light, heat, power, technology circuits and systems, and alarm and communication systems. Minnesota's electrical code consists of the 2011 National Electrical Code as published by the National Fire Protection Association.
Due to a delay caused by the state government shutdown, the Notice of Adoption of the 2011 National Electrical Code was published in the State Register Aug. 1, 2011 and the effective date is Aug. 8, 2011. Electrical permits/Requests for Electrical Inspection received by the department on or after the effective date are subject to the provisions of the 2011 National Electrical Code regardless of when the work was started.
