280,000 BTU Burnham water boiler explosion

The photos below are of the remains of a 280,000 BTU cast iron sectional water boiler made by Burnham that exploded. The explosion occurred at Hinton Heights Apartments, Cottage Grove, Minn., in October 2005; no one was hurt or killed.

Although the boiler was too small to fall under the Department of Labor and Industry's jurisdiction, the department is interested in determining the cause, in the interest of public safety. The incident is under investigation for the apartment complex by a professional engineer.
