Workplace safety and health representatives from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (DLI) will recognize Aveda (TM) Corporation's manufacturing and distribution facilities for their achievement as MNSTAR (Minnesota Star) worksites, during a ceremony at 11 a.m. on March 20. The ceremony will be conducted in the company's corporate headquarters auditorium at 4000 Pheasant Ridge Drive N.E., Blaine, Minn.
MNSTAR is a Minnesota Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MNOSHA) program that recognizes worksites where managers and employees work together to develop safety and health management systems that go beyond basic compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and result in immediate and long-term prevention of job-related injuries and illnesses.
"Aveda is now recognized as having two of the state's best worksites for safety and health," said Steve Sviggum, Department of Labor and Industry commissioner. "Together, our combined goal is worker safety. We are pleased to reward Aveda for its commitment to communicate, demonstrate and practice safety and health excellence at all levels of the organization."
To achieve MNSTAR status, Aveda's management and employees worked with MNOSHA's Workplace Safety Consultation to identify and eliminate current or future safety hazards. Key elements of this comprehensive program include: management leadership and employee involvement; an allocation of resources to address safety issues; systems that identify and control workplace hazards; and a plan for employee safety training and education.
"Aveda is honored to be recognized by MNSTAR for our commitment to a safe and injury-free work environment," said Dominique Conseil, president, Aveda. "This prestigious award is shared by all those at Aveda and reflects a company-wide commitment to ensure safety in our facilities."
Aveda manufactures professional plant-derived hair care, skin care, makeup, Pure-Fume (TM) and lifestyle products. Headquartered in Blaine, Minn., Aveda products are available online, in its Aveda stores, and in nearly 7,000 professional hair salons and spas in 27 countries worldwide.
Sviggum and other DLI representatives will commemorate the company's employee-employer relationship by presenting a MNSTAR flag and a certificate that exempts the facility for three years from MNOSHA Compliance scheduled inspections.
MNSTAR began in Minnesota in January 1999, and is modeled after the federal OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), which began in 1982. The Aveda sites are two of 29 MNSTAR worksites in Minnesota.
